Self Made by Shira Gefen – Closing Film at the Israel Film Center Festival in NYC

Self Made follows Michal, a renowned Jerusalem artist. One morning, her bed breaks, she falls, and consequently loses her memory. She orders a new bed and discovers that a screw is missing. She complains to the furniture factory, leading to the dismissal of Nadine, a young Palestinian woman, who works packing screws into plastic bags.

This event signals a point of no return for both women until their fates cross again at a border checkpoint. A soldier’s mistake sends Michal to Nadine’s refugee camp and Nadine to Michal’s home in Jerusalem. The switch leads them to discover their innermost desires, the ones they could not access in their previous lives.
