Fifty years after the birth of hip-hop, and 40 years after it made aliyah, we will tell the story of the genre that began as an underground fringe phenomenon and became one of the central voices in Israeli culture.
But this is not just a story about music. It is a story about us. About Israel in the 1990s and 2000s, about the Intifada, terrorist attacks, political upheavals and a deepening social divide, about a generation searching for a language, an identity and a place.
Through colourful characters – some larger than life, others more down-to-earth – previously untold behind-the-scenes stories and a groundbreaking cinematic style, we’ll trace the rise, fall and rebirth of local rap. In a historical and cultural documentary series centred not only on music, but on Israeli identity itself: an identity that searches for itself time and again, and does not always find it.
